Beachball FEST’16 Promo mix #8: ALKO

ALKO

Alko, or Motiejus, is a veteran promoter of hip-hop, reggae and good times parties in Kaunas and Vilnius. He has attracted many big names to Lithuania and even organized a big hip-hop festival! But first of all he’s a digger and a selector, so, whenever you see his name on the lineup, prepare a big smile. Here’s his Beachball promo mix and some stories to go with it!

How familiar are you with the concept of a DJ set on the beach? Do your remember your first one?

No challenge, just fun. I like playing, it’s not like climbing a mountain or something. Of course I put a lot of effort in it! My sole time on the beach was, I think, at the big and commercial festival in the middle of August last year, and, no matter how hard I tried, the foam show around the corner was more interesting to the people. Maybe I was too sober?

What’s the best track to wave goodbye to the sun – and then to meet it in the morning?

Roy Ayers – Everybody Loves The Sunshine. If it‘s too slow, add Erykah Badu and it will be just right.

Does the music sound and make you feel differently in fresh air, compared to a club?

Let’s not discuss the technical things but the vibe is just different. I prefer open air gigs as everyone is relaxed and I can play positive melodies. Inside, you somehow start sweating from all the looks super-critics give you.

Do you remember your first contact with Neringa FM? How close are you to the radio station?

It was an internet date. I think Neringa FM is the most positive radio station in Lithuania and it always plays the right music for me.

Sports! Do you do any? Will you play volleyball during the festival?

I am an amateur cyclist. I really love taking long rides all by myself. No other sports in the agenda just because I spend my days running my fingers across the PC keyboard, so that the kids would have somewhere to party on weekends. I guess I’ll accept the volleyball challenge. Why not?
